Our name, “One Hundred Year Horizons,” derives from sentiments voiced by Ted Turner: “Men should be barred from public office for 100 years in every part of the world. … It would be a much kinder, gentler, more intelligently run world. The men have had millions of years where we’ve been running things. We’ve screwed it up hopelessly. Let’s give it to the women.” (Reuters, Feb 2003) In other settings, he has also said that if women were in control “it would be a much more peaceful, prosperous, equitable world in a very short period of time”.
We believe it is important to take the long view in effecting positive change in our homes, communities, the country and the world. We also appreciate Turner’s view that women have important leadership qualities to offer. Part of our motivation is to build — and help deploy — greater leadership capability among women in particular.
